Online church worshipping allows those unable to visit Church to share in the celebration of God’s love and their faith. Sharing is one of the most basic teachings of Jesus and there are many stories to teach our children about sharing. With sharing however is the importance of being grateful and when someone shares something with you must show your gratitude. Stone Soup as well as the story of the Loaves and Fishes are both good examples of the importance of sharing and gratitude.

Stone soup tells the story of a hungry man visits a town unwilling to offer him food because they feel they do not have enough to share. The man takes a stone, places it in water and proceeds to “cook” the stone. As towns people watch this they are perplexed by his actions and ask him what he is doing. He tells them he is making stone soup. The man is persistent and insists it will be good although it would be better with a carrot. One person offers carrots. He then says it is getting better but it lacks seasoning. Another person offers seasoning. One by one the townspeople offer more and more ingredients until a full pot of soup is ready to share with the entire village. It was not until they thought the man had something to contribute that they were willing to share, yet once everyone contributed a small amount the entire village was fed.

Some people argue that the story of the loaves and fishes is about the miracle of Jesus producing food when there wasn’t enough. This is very important as it speaks to his ability to produce sustenance to those who hunger for love and meaning in life. Yet it also tells an important lesson about being grateful. Despite the fact that Jesus sees there is not enough food for the thousands who came to hear him speak, he gets down and prays to show thanks for the small amount of food they do have. This is of much significance as it is following his prayer of thanks for the small amount of food that the miracle of the loaves and fishes takes place. This is an important lesson that reminds us that when we are able to have faith and thank God for all we have, we will continue to receive from him
